Guyandotte Cemetery
The
Guyandotte Methodist Church Cemetery is
located across from the United Methodist
Church on 5th Avenue. This is the oldest
church in the cemetery in Cabell County,
with markers dating back to the
1810s/1820s. The land for the cemetery was
set aside in 1804 by Thomas Buffington as
part of a gift of real property to be used
as a church, cemetery, and school house.
While nearby Highland Cemetery, a public burial ground, seemed to be a more popular burial site in Civil War era Guyandotte, this cemetery still contains the graves of many of Guyandotte's prominent early citizens. Surnames therein include, but are not limited to: Hite, Smith, Holderby, Wellington, and Letulle.
